Receiving your HD’s
Chemo prep mats are best used for chemotherapy spill control and contamination prevention. In USP 800, receiving your shipment can be the first point of exposure to HDs. The first step is to inspect for damage when receiving your drugs. Check for any breakage or spills within the HD container.
Once inspected hazardous drugs must be transferred to the HD storage area as soon as possible. Upon inspection, if no breakage is identified, transport to a C-PEC and place the HD on one of our Pharma-chemo mats. Please refer to your facilities’ SOPs and local state laws for handling.
Use of Chemo Prep Mats in a controlled environment
Once prepared to start the production of a compounded sterile preparation, your facility must be USP 795 and 797 compliant. To begin the process, use an alcohol wipe to clean the Pharma-Chemo prep mat in its plastic, be sure not to open it until in the proper workstation.
Once in the proper C-PEC workstation, puncture the package with sterile scissors and remove the sterile mat from the plastic. Place the mat onto the appropriate workstation. Remove the plastic from your worksite and discard in your cleanroom disposal site.
If a spill occurs
If a spill occurs within your workstation, immediately change out the mat for a new one. The pharma-chemo prep mat should be changed out regularly during compounding activities. The prep mats should be disposed of at the end of the compounding activities in the appropriate waste container for hazardous or chemotherapy drugs.
Use of a chemo prep mat is recommended for the use of hazardous drug compounded sterile preparations, administering chemotherapy, and transport.
